BOYARDEE!

Director
Matt Waldeck
Producer
Jeremy Coon

The story of the man behind the can began on May 9th, 1914, when sixteen year old Italian immigrant Hector “Chef” Boyardee arrived at Ellis Island beneath Lady Liberty alongside thousands of Europeans seeking new opportunity in America. His culinary skill would take him to the Plaza Hotel in New York City where he would cook for U.S. presidents, and eventually into Cleveland, Ohio’s Gilded Age, where despite facing violent Anti-Italian sentiment, he would rise to become one of the greatest American entrepreneurs in the history of the country—becoming a WWII hero fueling the allied war effort with his nutritious mass produced canned food, and afterwards with the first readymade store-bought meals to eat—forever weaving Italian culture into the fabric of the American family—one dinner table at a time.
